What we collect about your child, why, who else is involved, and how to change your mind. Written to be read by a parent, not by a lawyer.

Last updated 7 August 2026

The short version

Your child never creates an account, signs in, or has a password. Yours is the only account in the picture. We collect as little as we can get away with, we do not advertise to anyone, and we never sell your family’s data.

What we collect about your child

Your child’s first name (or a nickname) and a rough age band — not a birth date — so the toy can greet them and show age-appropriate content. There is no photo, no surname, and no free-text profile field.

Voice and text messages

Messaging between connected families is off by default. When it is on, a child’s spoken message is recorded on the device, uploaded, and converted to text by Microsoft Azure’s speech service so it can be reviewed and read aloud. The recording itself is deleted shortly after it is played, or after a short expiry if it is never played — the text is what is kept, not the audio.

Parents can see the conversation

Any message your child sends or receives can be reviewed by the grown-ups in your family from the parent portal, and every time a parent opens a child’s messages, that access is logged.

If your child is connected with a friend in another family, that friend’s parents can read your child’s side of the conversation, and you can read theirs. This is inherent to letting parents oversee their children’s messages, and it is why every friend connection needs approval from a parent in both families before it does anything.

Sleep stories, read aloud

Sleep Stories are bedtime stories written and safety-checked ahead of time. Nothing is made up on the spot about your child, and no story contains anything about them.

The one personal detail used is your child’s first name, so the story can greet them by name. To read it aloud, that name is placed into the already-written story and sent to Microsoft Azure’s text-to-speech service, which turns the words into the narrator’s voice. That service runs in our Australian region, keeps no copy of the audio, and never uses it to train anything. No AI model is ever given your child’s name, and your child’s own voice is never involved in this feature.

Who else is involved

We use two outside services to run this product. Microsoft Azure stores and processes your family’s data, including the speech-to-text and text-to-speech described above. Clerk manages parent sign-in and family accounts; Clerk never receives any information about your child, only your own parent account details.

All of your child’s data is processed and stored in Australia. Clerk operates out of the United States, but only for your own adult account.

How long we keep things

We keep your child’s information for as long as your family is using the toy. Voice recordings are the shortest-lived of all: they are deleted soon after a message is played, or after a short expiry if it is never played. When you delete a child’s data, it is purged from our live systems and any remaining copies age out shortly afterwards.

What we never do

  • No advertising, on the device or in the parent portal
  • We never sell or license your family’s data
  • No behavioural profiling
  • No analytics or tracking software beyond what runs this product
  • No camera or location tracking, and no always-on listening — the microphone only activates when your child chooses to record

You’re in control

You can review what is stored and delete your child’s data at any time from the parent portal. Deleting a child’s data purges it from our live systems, including their messages, sleep stories, and pocket-money history.

You can also withdraw your consent. Email us and we will revoke it, which stops the service collecting or serving your child’s data from that point on. Withdrawing consent and deleting the data already collected are two separate choices — you can do either, or both. Only the parent who granted consent can withdraw it; other grown-ups in your family keep the same visibility either way.
